About Stephen Leshner
Steve Leshner has been practicing law in Arizona since 1976. He is a charter member of the first group of lawyers in Arizona in 1991 to be certified as a specialist in Injury and Wrongful Death Litigation. He is a Past President of the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association, included in "Best Lawyers in America", named an Arizona "Super Lawyer", an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a Life Member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He is a co-author of the Negligence chapter in the Arizona Tort Law Handbook, published by the State Bar of Arizona in 2012, and a frequent seminar speaker on various personal injury topics for national and local organizations. Steve limits his practice to plaintiff's accident, personal injury, medical malpractice and products liability cases. He has represented thousands of Arizonans who have been harmed by the intentional, careless and negligent conduct of others, and has collected millions of dollars for individuals from major corporations, large insurance companies, the health care industry and the government. In the largest settlement in Arizona history, Steve was one of only two Arizona lawyers designated by the State of Arizona as its outside counsel in the Master Settlement Agreement in its three billion dollar settlement with leading U.S. tobacco companies. Steve was a member of the Plaintiffs Steering Committee (PSC) in the Zicam Products Liability Litigation and was elected Lead Counsel in the concurrent Zicam Arizona state court litigation. Currently, he is personally representing clients in serious motor vehicle collisions, medical malpractice, mesothelioma, hernia mesh cases and mass tort product liability cases involving Elmiron and talcum powder

Common questions about Personal Injury in Arizona
Answered by Arizona Attorney Search Network
Is Arizona a no-fault state for car accidents?
No. Arizona is a fault-based ('tort') state for auto accidents, not a no-fault state. The injured party can pursue a claim against the at-fault driver and that driver's liability insurer. Minimum required auto liability coverage is $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident for bodily injury and $15,000 for property damage under ARS § 28-4009.
Should I have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage in Arizona?
Yes. Auto insurers must offer UM/UIM coverage under ARS § 20-259.01, though it can be rejected in writing. Roughly 12% of Arizona drivers are uninsured, and many more carry only state minimums that won't cover serious injuries. UM/UIM pays your damages when the at-fault driver is uninsured, underinsured, or a hit-and-run, and is one of the most cost-effective coverages available.
How is pain and suffering valued in Arizona personal-injury cases?
Arizona has no statutory formula for pain and suffering. Common methods include the multiplier method (medical bills × 1.5 to 5 depending on severity) and the per-diem method (a daily dollar amount × days of impairment). The actual award depends on the severity of injuries, recovery time, permanent impairment or scarring, the credibility of the plaintiff, and - if the case goes to trial - jury composition.
