<p>Joseph A. Kanefield is a partner at Snell & Wilmer&rsquo;s Phoenix Office in the special litigation and compliance practice group. He previously served as Chief Deputy/Chief of Staff under Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. Joe&rsquo;s government-centric practice focuses on election and campaign finance law, constitutional law, civil and appellate litigation, government relations, public-private partnerships, procurement, administrative law, gaming, consumer, and state and local tax matters.</p> <p>Prior to joining the Attorney General&rsquo;s Office in 2019, Joe was a partner at Ballard Spahr from 2011 to 2019, and served as General Counsel to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer from 2009 to 2011. He also served in the Arizona Secretary of State's Office as State Election Director and in-house counsel. Prior to that, he served as an Assistant Attorney General and an attorney with the Arizona Department of Revenue.</p> <p>Joe is a past-president of the State Bar of Arizona Board of Governors. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is past chair of the State Bar Access to Justice Task Force and the United Blood Services Community Leadership Council. He serves on the Arizona Equal Justice Foundation's Board of Directors and the City of Phoenix Judicial Selection Advisory Committee. Joe teaches Election Law as a Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona College of Law, and also serves on the College of Law Board of Visitors.</p> <p>Joe received the State Bar's 2011 Distinguished Public Lawyer Award. In 2017, Joe was selected as the best political lawyer by the Arizona Capitol Times. In 2018, he was named to Southwest Super Lawyers for Legislative & Government Affairs and in 2019 made the Arizona Business Magazine list of the Top 100 lawyers in Arizona. </p> <p>Joe graduated from Arizona State University in 1990 with a B.S. in Economics and received his law degree from the University of Arizona in 1994. He has been a member of the State Bar of Arizona since 1994.</p>
