What does "Board-Certified Specialist" mean?
The Arizona Board of Legal Specialization, a body of the State Bar of Arizona, certifies attorneys who demonstrate substantial involvement in a designated practice area, peer recommendations, continuing legal education above bar minimums, and pass a written examination. Certified specialists must recertify every 5 years.
Only ~3% of Arizona attorneys hold this certification. The Arizona Supreme Court permits these attorneys to advertise themselves as "Certified Specialists" — a designation no other peer-rating service may grant.
