About Mr Richard Mendel Wintory

Richard M. Wintory is a career prosecutor with decade’s of experience as a front line trial dog and supervisor, training and teaching Arizona County Attorney Offices and hundreds of lawyers, paralegals, investigators and support staff to help bring justice to the rugged corridor between Mexico, Phoenix and the rest of the nation. Richard was Chief Deputy in the Pinal County Attorney’s Office, a prosecutor in the Border Crimes Section of the Office of the Arizona Attorney General and a senior prosecutor in the Pima County Attorney’s Office in Tucson, assigned to the Arizona HITDA Center. Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard described him as “one of the most experienced border crime prosecutors in the country.” He’s prosecuted racketeering cases against criminal enterprises trafficking in drugs, operating identity theft and money laundering rings and engaging in a range of violent crimes including rape, kidnapping, and murder.

Richard has received several awards for his legal work, including being named Prosecutor of the Year twice in the time he’s served Arizona. He was given that honor by the Arizona Narcotics Officers Association in 2005 and by his colleagues on the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys Advisory Council in 2007.

The award recognized a year in which Richard resigned his position in Arizona to re-try a killer in Oklahoma who raped and murdered a young woman then framed two innocent men for his crime. The temporary job switch kept a promise to the victim’s family in the event of a reversal of the conviction of their daughter’s killer. After re-convicting him, Richard returned to Arizona and successfully prosecuted a series of racketeering cases. These included a 41 defendant case in which the enterprise’s leader continued to run his gang- including ordering murders- from jail. He earned a well-deserved life sentence. Richard also convicted the leader of another gang that robbed, kidnapped and murdered others in the border drug trade along with attacks and attempts to murder innocent bystanders and a police officer attempting to rescue victims.
