<p>In 1981 I was admitted to practice in Michigan and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Admission to the Western District came in 2006. While in MIchigan I was in the Wayne County (Detroit) Prosecutor&rsquo;s Office for several years where I had the chance to gain significant experience trying cases in the Detroit Recorder&rsquo;s Court (felony) and handling over 400 appeals including federal habeas corpus cases in both the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. After leaving the prosecutors' office in 1995, I had an active criminal defense practice focused on appeals, pre-trial motions, and representing clients in misdemeanor and felony matters in various state courts. I was the Secretary for the Michigan State Bar Appellate Practice Council from the founding of the Appellate Practice section until I moved to Arizona. While I am no longer in Michigan, I maintain my membership in the State Bar of Michigan and still work for several Michigan attorneys on pre-trial motions and appeals.</p> <p>In 1997 I was admitted to practice in Arizona and in 2005 the U.S. District Court for Arizona. Since moving to Arizona in 2001, I have had an active criminal defense practice focused on appeals, but also representing clients in both felony and misdemeanor matters in various courts in the state. In 2014 I was the Appellate Bureau Chief for the Pinal County Attorney&rsquo;s Office. After leaving that position I now have a very active appellate crminal defense practice in the Arizona appellate courts as well as in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (admitted 2006). My caseload includes representing clients in Rule 32 proceedings in Pinal County as well as representing clients in criminal appeals of right in the Court of Appeals and Arizona Supreme Court. I am on the Crinminal Justice Act Appellate list and have done several criminal appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.</p> <p>I have also gained significant experience in handling appeals from juvenile court decisions finding dependency or severing parental rights. </p> <p>In my over three decades of practice I have had the opportunity to meet and learn from many experienced attorneys. I have worked hard on my writing skills and continue to do so by attending legal writing seminars including those taught by Bryan Garner.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
