<p style="text-align:justify">Heather Bohnke is a 21-year attorney who helps healthcare providers manage risks, respond to the unexpected and fight for what's fair. Her practice surrounds Defending our Healthcare Heroes^TM.</p> <p style="text-align:justify">Heather graduated <em>cum laude</em> with Honors from the University of Arizona in 1997 with a Bachelor&rsquo;s of Science in Psychology with a pre-law thematic minor. She then went to the University of Houston Law Center in 2001 because it had the #1 Health Law Program in the country. She graduated in the top third of her class.</p> <p style="text-align:justify">Heather spent the first 12 years of her legal career in Phoenix, Arizona, practicing in the areas of corporate tort litigation, and medical and nursing home malpractice insurance defense. Heather then went in-house for five years with a large insurance company defending first-party and third-party personal injury claims.</p> <p style="text-align:justify">Heather then became a partner at Gust Rosenfeld, PLC, spending 90% of her time defending hospital, long-term care, assisted living, and home health facilities and other healthcare organizations against medical malpractice and vulnerable adult abuse claims. The remainder of her practice is in healthcare business and general tort litigation. She has first-chaired multi-million dollar personal injury trials, mediation and arbitration. She also has experience drafting special actions and appeals.</p> <p style="text-align:justify">Heather has lectured on a number of healthcare and litigation/trial issues, including pertient case law, the use of trial technology, <em>voir dire</em>, handling expert and nursing witness, and using the idiosyncrasies of the rules of civil procedure to the defense advantage.</p> <p style="text-align:justify">Heather is currently Vice President of the Arizona Society of Healthcare Risk Management, and is actively involved in the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management, American Healthcare Association, Defense Research Institute, Arizona Healthcare Association, Arizona Society of Healthcare Lawyers, and various other legal and healthcare organizations.</p>
